Spring Planting In Lake City

Lion’s, Youth and LCFF Partnering on Lake City Way Planters

On May 25th, Mark Mendez’s Lake City Leaders, the Lake City Lion’s Chuck Dickey and I joined up to freshen up the soil and put some bright colored perennials to augment the annuals in the concrete pots that line both the east and west sides of LCW from 120th to 125th. The LC Leaders (participants of a program through the Lake City Community Center and Meadowbrook Teen Center) put on their “Something Is Happening In Lake City” Clean and Safe shirts and got a quick lesson from Chuck on proper planting techniques. The Lake City Lion’s, through Chuck’s dedication, have been helping to maintain these planters for many years. It was great to see the youth working along side Chuck in this effort that provides a simple amenity that brightens up the corridor a bit. The Lion’s and LCFF provided the flowers and soil and the youth provided the elbow grease. A little something we can all be proud of here in the neighborhood.

The Lake City Lion’s have and continue to do so much within the Community. Their work often goes unnoticed in the world of social media that is a primary mode of acknowledging and promoting positive community work. Next time you run across one of our Lake City Lions, often working out of the Community Center, be sure to thank them for their service and commitment to the Community.

Thanks to All Who Took Part in Spring Clean

2nd Annual LCFF Spring Clean Was a Success

Seventy Two Lake City Community Members came out and braved a threatening Seattle rain on Earth Day to clean up, build community and enjoy some food and refreshments courtesy of Kaffeeklatsch and Elliott Bay Brewery. Participants were also treated to some free “Market Bucks” from our own Molly Burke with the Lake City Farmers Market.

Many people experiencing homelessness as well as families with young children, business owners, NE Seattle Rotary Members,

Value Village employees and a diverse group of neighbors came out to help Lake City get a little spring shine. Continue reading “Thanks to All Who Took Part in Spring Clean”
