Refugee Artisan Initiative

The Refugee Artisan Initiative has been asked by the City of Seattle and King County to make and deliver 11,500 masks to them within 2 weeks. Our refugee and immigrant artisans are working furiously to fulfill the order, but the tight time-frame requires us to seek sewing assistance from our general community as well.

WE NEED HELP FROM YOU if you are an experienced sewer.

Materials can be picked up Thursday (5/7) or Friday (5/8) between 10am and 4pm and need to be finished and delivered by next Thursday, May 14th by noon.

When dropping off on the 14th, you can also pick up a new batch for sewing – to be returned on Monday, May 18th.

Pick-up RAI’s Maker’s Space at 12545 Lake City Way NE, Seattle, WA 91825.

We are paying $2.00 per mask (first batch minimum 100 masks per sewer, then in increments of 50 masks)

The masks are sewn from donated new bed sheets; these need to be unwrapped, elastic removed from the fitted ones, ironed and then cut into 17″x 7 1/2″ sections.  The sewing pattern is illustrated in the attached video.

Please text (301) 984-7230 or email to schedule a pickup at any other time.

(Note: the RAI location is not staffed every day of the week, so we cannot handle walk-ins).
