A Powerful Remembrance

Forever A King (Glenn Hubbard Tribute)

By Kateel

Glenn Hubbard 1956-2016

One of our hopes for the Enjoylakecity.org website is that it can build our sense of community through the sharing of stories and our unique experiences.

We are very proud to post this incredible expression from Kateel Barnett. Kateel is a true Lake City treasure and we are thankful to him for sharing his artistry with us. What follows is a bit about Kateel and his tribute to Glenn Hubbard who had a tremendous impact on the lives of youth throughout Seattle.

“My name is Kateel Barnett. I am 18 years old and a senior at Nathan Hale High School. I’ve always had a passion for music but didn’t start taking it seriously until my sophomore year. I learned how to produce and engineer sound as well and practiced lyric writing and musical composition.

This song is dedicated to a loved one who passed, Glenn Hubbard. I met him in middle school and throughout my life he taught me and many other young men and women valuable lessons that have helped in so many ways. Without my father in my life, Glenn almost served as a father figure to me and kept me on track to becoming something great. I thank him because without him I may not be where I am today.”

Kateel – Forever A King (Glenn Hubbard Tribute)

(Verse 1)

I haven’t ever lost a loved one before, but now I know the pain that takes a piece of your soul with it. See you were gifted cause you always kept it positive and kept your promises to stick with it to see me grow and so this is for you, for all that you did for me. This can’t even scratch the surface of what I want it to be, but i know you’ll still be proud when you’re up their looking down and you see how I’m tryna carry on yo legacy.

I was young and immature like most of us were. You kept me levelheaded when things had been going the worst. You said to be strong and never pay attention to the ‘suckas’ and to be a gentlemen so I ain’t going to curse, but at first I ain’t know how to deal with it

I ain’t even know how to feel with it, and so I walked away like everything was just okay… until 10 minutes later that I just couldn’t take the fact that you were gone

and I would never get to see you again. I wish I could’ve thanked you for always being my friend and always bein a man of his word and giving guidance, so to you highness I say rest in peace to Glenn.

(Hook x2)

Forever a King

(I said forever, forever ever, forever with it.)

I said forever a King

(I said forever, forever ever, forever with it.)

Forever a King.

(I said forever, forever ever, forever with it.)

(Verse 2)

I’m writing this second verse a couple weeks have passed. I’m happy to say I’m feeling less weaker than I was feeling on the day you passed. And I’m filled with memories of what you meant to me and all the things you said to me; bumping this while my speakers blast.

I hope you chillin’ where you at and that you living good and that you see the kids you helped with getting out the hood. With your help there ain’t no telling what these kids could be. Without your help, ain’t no tellin where these kids would be… maybe dead in the street…

Woah

I guess that could’ve been me…

But… you encouraged my dreams to be better. I’m forever greatful, thankful you’re an angel, that’s forever. I’m going to make it when I make, no I won’t ever forget you. You taught me patience and I thank you cause it helped me keep my head up. I dont take any of the things that you said to me for granted. I can’t wait until I see you when I’m done here on this planet.

(Hook x2)

Forever a King
