Changes Coming To Lake City Library

In Early 2018 the Lake City Branch Will Close for Interior Remodel

The following is taken from The Seattle Public Library Foundation’s information regarding Lake City’s library remodel scheduled to begin in late February of 2018. The foundation anticipates that the Library will be closed for approximately five months during the work. LCFF will be working with the Library to keep you informed on how this will effect programs offered by the Library and how individuals and groups can help support this remodel through fund raising.

“In 2018, the Seattle Public Library plans a major renovation of its Lake City Branch, expanding the amount of public space to meet the needs of a dynamic neighborhood this is rapidly growing and changing. Lake City is one of the most heavily used libraries in the city with more than 220,000 patron visits last year. – There is high demand for use of the library’s computers and free WIFI as well as public meeting rooms. Mores students attend the Lake City’s after school Homework Help program often taking up most of the public seating.

The renovation plan for the LC Branch adds a total of 1,600 square feet of public space. While the footprint of the building will not change, the additional public space will be achieve by condensing existing  staff areas. The plans will:

  • Reconfigure the main entrance are into a flexible public space
  • Add comfortable seating and work spaces that support mobile devices
  • Add three new public meeting rooms
  • Provide a large play space in the Children’s area that can be used for Story-time
  • Create a lively teen area
  • Centrally locate all staff services to a single public service point
  • Add modular wall for meeting spaces to allow for maximum flexibility and capacity

The total $3.1 million budget for this project includes funding for the Seattle Public Library Foundation to make this project possible.
