1st Delivery: A Success for Local Restaurants and Families in Need
Build Lake City Together was extremely fortunate to have a connection to Marina Gray who is leading the effort for the “Food is Love” project that began just a little over a week ago. Working with local school counselors at Olympic Hills Elementary, Hazel Wolf K-8 and Northgate Elementary we identified 30 families that will benefit from the program that brings a fresh meal to their doorstep three days a week.
Our first delivery was this past Friday, March 27th, where we had 19 volunteers (7 of which made deliveries) and we delivered food to almost 30 families (109 individuals). The restaurants that we worked with to pay them to supply the meals were Kaffeeklatsch, Mount&Bao and Lake City Gyros. Today (3/30) we will be spreading the love to Pho An and Beyond the Bowl. We have seven Lake City restaurants that we are currently working with and with a three day a week delivery schedule we are helping them to make ends meet at this extremely difficult time.
Our hope is to expand the project to include more families and people in most need as well as to increase the number of participating businesses and the amount of revenue we are bringing to each business. Every volunteer practices safe distances and other precautions as they leave the food delivery on the families doorstep after calling to alert them that they have arrived.
