Seattle City Council Hearing attended by Lake City Youth Leaders
City Council chambers were packed yesterday, October 25, 2016 as people with important causes from all over the city poured in to give testimony on needs and how the City should spend our money. Among the crowd was an incredible showing by some of our Lake City Youth advocating for a new full service community center in our neighborhood. Sporting signs created by families and children from the North Seattle Family Resource Center the group waited their turn to speak to council on this crucial need.
You can view the youth testimony on this link from the Seattle Channel – Public Comment – The youth’s testimony comes in at about the 135.57 mark.
I was able to speak earlier in the evening and relayed Sandy and Tim Motzer’s great work on a budget summary regarding how a new center can be funded. Fellow LCNA board member Abdi Hussein also spoke to the need. Testimony was paired down to one minute because of the large crowd that had turned out and the amount of those that wished to speak on a wide range of important issues. Thanks to John Lombard, co-chair of the North District Council, who also spoke, in part, regarding the community center effort. The true stars of the evening were our Youth Leaders who, guided by Mark Mendez, are truly demonstrating their powerful voices for the benefit of us all.
