Lots of Neighbors and Supporters Come Out for RAI’s Open House
On December 4th many Lake Cityzens and pe0ple from across the City came out to learn more about the Refugee Artisan Initiative (RAI), visit with their board and participants and check out many of their products. The RAI Maker Space is located at 12545 Lake City Way NE and is the first participant in Build Lake City Together’s “Business Incubator” pilot program. BLCT and the Children’s Home Society of Washington are honored to provide RAI with free space to grow their model and support local immigrant and refugee woman in their paths to employment and business ownership.
RAI works to employ immigrant and refugee women on small batch sewing and jewelry making projects. You can learn more about them by visiting their site – https://refugeesarts.org
Recently BLCT had the opportunity to provide interpreters working with Literacy Source and financial support to obtain business licenses for five of RAI’s participating artisans. RAI has a bright future and a model that is creating opportunities in Lake City and beyond.
