Floodplain reminder and project updates

Early Winter 2022

Our most exciting news is that Lake City Floodplain Park Community Workshop #3 is this week! We’ll be on Zoom on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 6:30 – 8 pm to share where the project has been and where we are right now. We’re very much looking forward to hearing your thoughts about what the park could be as we move toward selecting an option for the next stages of design!

If you haven’t yet had a chance to register, please do so.

Please also forward this invitation to Lake City friends and neighbors who might be interested in joining us. The more community members involved in bringing this space from a dream to reality the better.

In the meantime, we are available anytime to hear your feedback and/or field your questions!

Read on below for more news from the Lake City Floodplain Park.

Site Updates

  • Demolition of the site’s existing structures is now complete. The temporary bridge crossing will remain in place until final clean up and restoration efforts are finished.
  • A fence and gate have been installed along NE 125th Street to alleviate safety concerns and ensure that vehicles do not drive through the property.

Team Progress

  • The design team has developed conceptual park amenity options based on community input. These options will be presented during Community Workshop #3. The team is excited to get additional feedback on the design progress.
  • The project team presented to the Seattle Design Commission in November. This Commission advises and assists the City in the development and execution of capital improvement projects. The project heard great feedback and the team will present to the Commission again once the design is further developed.
  • The project team had a successful presentation to Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Proview, an internal review process for early project development. The review committee expressed shared support for the project.
  • The project team has been developing a document that creates a guideline for taking the project from conceptual design through construction. The document will be used to update the City of Seattle’s executive leadership and for approval on our approach for moving the project forward.
We hope to hear from you soon!
