“Inland Group is a Spokane-based developer and general contractor focused on improving efficiency in affordable housing creation, while also meeting non-housing goals at the same time (equity in our processes, education and health resources for residents upon completion, and being a benefit to the neighborhood for generations). We have constructed several thousand affordable homes in western states, with a focus on Washington as it is our home. Most recently, we completed Thai Binh Apartments in Seattle’s Little Saigon neighborhood and we are under construction in Rainier Valley. We have partnered with the City Office of Housing on those two communities and look forward to continuing to be a part of the solution to the affordable housing crisis in Seattle.
To that end, we are under contract to purchase the Value Village site in Lake City. We propose demolition of the structure and new construction of 260 family units. As currently conceptualized, it is 100% at 60% AMI, family housing with about 20% 3-bedroom units, with all the typical amenities for this size community.”
We offer some considerations for thought regarding the development:
- The area has been an important mid block connection for residents of 33rd Avenue and has the potential to improve and retain a pedestrian friendly component to the central business district
- Thornton Creek is underground behind the land and there is an opportunity to create a landscape feature that could recognize the creek and add some beautification elements to 33rd Avenue.
- What could an effective street level retail space look like?
The meeting with Inland will be followed by the Lake City Neighborhood Alliance’s Regularly scheduled monthly meeting where they will be hosting head of the Department of Neighborhoods, Andres Mantilla.
